We’ve all done it.
We pray, “God, have Your way,” — but secretly, we’ve already written the script.
We map out the plan, the timeline, and the results we expect… and then get frustrated when God doesn’t follow it.
In this week’s episode of God’s Calling, Shauna gets honest about what it really means to trust God’s plan — not the version we imagine, but the one He’s actually writing.
When Faith Turns Into Control
Shauna shares how she once prayed a bold, specific prayer:
“Lord, I want to book 30 speaking gigs by June 30th.”
It sounded faith-filled. It even rhymed.
But deep down, it wasn’t trust — it was control dressed up in spiritual language.
She was trusting her timeline, her strategy, and her definition of success, not God’s.
And when those 30 bookings didn’t happen, the disappointment hit hard.
But in that space of silence and surrender, God spoke something that changed everything:
“You’re not called to count the bookings — you’re called to obey.”
That truth reframed everything.
Because obedience doesn’t always look like progress.
Sometimes it looks like waiting.
Sometimes it looks like changing direction.
And sometimes it looks like starting something new that makes no sense.
Abraham, Sarah, and the Detour That Delayed the Promise
Shauna reflects on the story of Abraham and Sarah — two people who received a promise from God but struggled with His timing.
When the years passed without a child, they started to reason it out.
They tried to help God’s plan along by bringing Hagar into the picture — and for a while, it seemed like their version might work.
But it only brought pain, confusion, and delay.
Because it wasn’t God’s way.
Still, God didn’t cancel His promise.
He simply waited — until the moment it would be undeniably Him.
When Isaac was finally born, it wasn’t just a child; it was proof that God’s timing is always perfect.
That story reminded Shauna (and reminds us) that real trust means believing the promise still stands, even when the timeline doesn’t make sense.
When God Changes the Plan
In that same spirit, God began nudging Shauna to host her own conferences — to stop waiting for invitations and start creating opportunities.
At first, she resisted. Hosting events felt too big, too soon, too much.
She told God, “That’s not how this works!”
But He gently reminded her,
“It’s not supposed to work your way — it’s supposed to work Mine.”
So she surrendered — not perfectly, but honestly.
It became a daily prayer:
“Okay God, I trust You. Help me trust You more.”
As she let go, things started shifting.
The plans she thought she needed fell apart — and surprisingly, she was at peace about it.
Because for the first time, she wasn’t trying to control the outcome. She was learning to trust the process.
When God Flips the Script
Shauna even shares a moment when she posted on social media looking for speakers and, to cover expenses, asked that they pay to participate.
But instantly, something felt off. It didn’t sit right in her spirit.
And that’s when God flipped the script.
He provided in ways that made no logical sense.
Expenses were not just covered — they were demolished.
Now, she gets to do something she once thought was impossible:
Pay her speakers, her worship leader, and any guest artists or comedians who join the conference.
And the next venue? Already booked.
That’s what trusting God’s plan looks like.
It’s not about perfection or control.
It’s about believing His way really is better, even when you don’t see how it’ll come together.
What Trust Really Looks Like
Shauna puts it plainly:
Trust isn’t proven when everything goes right.
It’s proven when everything changes — and you remain peaceful anyway.
When God asks you to surrender your expectations, He’s not taking something from you.
He’s making space for something greater.
Maybe that’s where you are right now.
You’ve got a vision, a plan, maybe even a deadline — but it’s not unfolding the way you expected.
Here’s your reminder:
God’s not late.
He’s strategic.
He knows exactly what He’s doing.
The more you release control, the more peace you’ll find.
And the more peace you find, the easier it becomes to recognize His hand in every detail.
A Final Thought
What expectation do you need to release today so you can fully trust His plan — not your own?
Because real trust doesn’t say, “God, here’s how I want it.”
It says,
“God, however You want it — I’m in.”
That’s when faith becomes freedom.
That’s when your plans make room for miracles.
